After two years of tireless fundraising, a flurry of generous donations, a cross channel charity swim and a lot of dust and drilling, the new clubhouse at BerkoAstro - the Paul Beard Centre - is finally open. The new facility – which contains toilets, a classroom and catering facilities – was declared open at an official ceremony on Saturday September 8th, attended by Raiders players and parents. A plaque dedicated to Raiders’ late chairman Paul Beard was unveiled by Paul’s wife Carolyn Beard.
“The Paul Beard Centre is going to make a huge difference to BerkoAstro,” said Chairman Keith Pollard. A lot of people that use the pitches come from quite some distance away and these simple facilities – especially the toilets – will bring some welcome relief! This centre is going to be of huge benefit to all our Raiders teams plus the wider community and other clubs which use BerkoAstro.
“As the centre finally opens its doors I’d like to say a huge thank you to the people who made donations and awarded us grants including Sport England, the Football Foundation and Majestic Wine.”
Refreshments are available everyday at the Paul Beard Centre with hot food available at weekends. Opening times are subject to change but the centre currently opens as follows:
Wednesday & Friday : 6.00pm – 9.00pm, Tuesday & Thursday : 5.00pm – 8.00pm, Saturday : 8.30am -1.00pm & Sunday : 9.00am – 1.00pm
