| Game Notes | The Reds cruised into the second round of the Challenge Cup with a comprehensive victory over genuine "dark horses" from a couple of divisions down. The boys reached kick-off time with the right mindset...aware of their probable superiority, whilst equally mindful that the opposition were capable enough to punish complacency.
The six goals were equally split between the the two halves. Ben P - with his instinct for being at the right place at the right time - snaffled two of them...Joe D managed a hat trick (his first touch of the ball was a confidently-despatched penalty, won for him by the trickery of Oliver B...his last, a deft finish to Tom A's approach work)...and there was an own goal amongst it all too.
But the "guts" of the team did the real work. Harry F and Edmund B "held" midfield beautifully - both of them utterly reliable; Tom A and Jake B "harmonised" well in defence...and, on the 2 or 3 occasions when they were all by-passed, Ben H - despite being under the weather for much of the week - was not for being beaten.
As ever, it was a delight to witness Will B's busy and artistic use of the ball - he is such a crowd-pleaser! But our man of the match was the splendidly sprightly Oliver Burchnall who repeatedly "twisted the blood" of the opposition full-back and responded to the urgings of his personal fan club with a "vintage" performance! Well done all!
